AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There. Now that we've got THAT out of my system...

I really HATE cities. And not in the "it's really a minor dislike" type of hate. Loathing. Detestation.

I had to deliver some papers to a lawyers office on the north side of Richmond (VA) yesterday afternoon. I was given the papers (finally) at around 4:10 yesterday and told that they had to be in the lawyers office before 5. And it's a 45 minute drive from where I was to Staples Mill ... if the was no traffic. Oh, yeah, did I mention that it's rush hour? On a Friday in August?

Managed to get there in time (barely, they were locking up as I walked up).

What really peeves me, though? The traffic on I-64E heading back to the southside of the city. Now, where Staples Mill joins up w/ I-64, I can understand some delays. They're expanding a bridge there and causing all kinds of havoc. What I don't understand though is this: Why does 3 lanes of traffic come to a complete and inexplicable stop? There's no wreck. No disabled vehicle. The traffic 100 yards ahead is moving at normal highway speeds, for pete's sake!?!

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, rant over.

Now that I'm back in the backwoods again, I feel better.

Y'all have a nice weekend!

No one can begin to understand why you can randomly find yourself in total gridlock when no reasonable cause is to be found, but apart from the traffic, pollution, violence, crime rate, expense (and so on and so on), there's a special brand of magic that can only be found in city life: the streets vibrate with energy and life, and people operate to a different sort of rhythm than anywhere else, there's a need to live and to experience as much as possible, a greed for the spirit that it offers.
I live in south east London, and at best, it's grubby, it's rude, and it verges on unpleasant, but even so I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. Only the city can so wholly embrace you.

Hey!  You were in my neighborhood!

And for the record, I avoid the Bryan Park interchange with a passion!  I switch over to lakeside and get on 95 before the INterchange and then scoot to the left lane.

Another option, especially during rush hour, is to take I-195.  50 cents toll, but that will skirt I-95 until it remerges over at the JRB, so you avoid all the downtown stop and go.  Everyone knows about I-195, but very few use it.  Cause of the Toll I guess.
